Dear Souls,
I am humbled to sing these ancient mantras in a language foreign to my tongue yet familiar to my heart. The Sanskrit word “bija” means seed. A bija mantra is the essential sound or syllable representing each deity. Aum is the most sacred syllable, meaning “all” and representing the Lord. A bija mantra is also a seed prayer, uttered or sung repeatedly, silently or aloud, which brings the consciousness to a focused state, clearing the mind so that you can draw your attention to your true spiritual form, the Divine Source within. Then you can feel the illumination of the soul. I have affectionately begun the CD with an invocation to Hanuman, included four mantras attached to the holy word AUM, and ended with a beloved spiritual classic. You will hear the bija mantras HAUM for Shiva and KLEEM for Krishna. As you listen and sing along, may your Spirit shine out from within.

This music is dedicated to God, the Supreme Guru, whom all these songs glorify. To my Guru here on Earth, Yogacharya Shri BKS Iyengar, who inspires my life and who influenced this work. To my two brilliant yoga teachers, Manouso Manos and Patricia Walden.Manouso, you have helped me to heal my vehicle for many years. Patricia, you encouraged me to get myself out there and provided the opportunities. I thank you from deep within my heart.

To my loving family: my mother and father, my sister and brothers and their families, to my most perfect daughter Seabron, to Aunt Ruth and Aunt Hazel and to little Lily. Thank you to my yoga students and friends who helped me with this project. Thank you Craig and Bobbie. I’m grateful to Mandala Publishing for use of the beautiful paintings by B.G. Sharma, to the Vedanta Society of Northern California for permission to use the picture of Christ meditating in the forest, and to Rachel Smith for the luminous photography. Thank you Krishna Das for sharing your music. Thanks Iha for your sunny nature and Sandy for your work on the graphic art, now we’re friends. To Darryl at Oasis who patiently helped me through this project.

To my fellow musicians, Prasanna and Steve, what a blessing to work with you!
God led me to all of you. With Love, Sawyer
